Google lance le Googlebook - Une

Fifteen years after creating Chromebooks (those simple and affordable laptops), Google is stepping up its game. On May 12, 2026, during The Android Show conference, the tech giant revealed its brand-new project: the Googlebook.

Scheduled for release later this year in Fall 2026, these high-end laptops ditch the usual Chromebook system to run on Android (the same system found on most smartphones). Their goal? To use Gemini artificial intelligence (AI) to compete directly with Apple’s famous MacBooks and Windows computers.

“Magic Cursor”: A Brand-New Way to Use Your Mouse

To stand out from the competition, Google has invented a surprising feature: the Magic Cursor. In addition to the usual left and right clicks, all you have to do is shake your mouse or touchpad to call up the Gemini AI assistant.

The AI instantly analyzes what is displayed on your screen and guesses what you want to do next.

A concrete example: You select two photos on your screen and shake the mouse. The system immediately offers to compare the images, merge them, or summarize them—all instantly and without having to open any photo editing software. If you don’t like the suggested choices, you can simply type what you want into a small text box.

Chic and Modern Laptops

No more cheap plastic laptops. For Googlebooks, Google is requiring manufacturers (Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo) to use premium materials. Interestingly, longtime partner Samsung is noticeably absent from this launch.

On the design side, these devices introduce a new visual feature: the Glow Bar. This is a stylish light bar located at the top of the machine that lights up whenever the AI is active.

Total Integration with Your Smartphone

Googlebook

One of the Googlebook’s biggest selling points is its ability to work hand-in-hand with your Android phone (especially Pixel phones). Three key features have been announced:

  • Phone Apps on the Computer (Phone Apps): You can view and use your phone’s apps directly on the laptop’s big screen. No need to install them on the PC, and you don’t even have to take your phone out of your bag! (A similar feature exists at Apple, but it is currently blocked in several countries, whereas Google’s solution will be available everywhere).
  • Super Easy File Access (Quick Access): The computer displays your phone’s entire storage just like a regular folder, making it a breeze to transfer photos or documents back and forth without any cables.
  • Custom Mini-Programs (Widgets): You can create handy little display boxes on your screen (to track your schedule or a trip in real-time, for example). Thanks to AI, these modules resize perfectly to fit the laptop screen.

When Is It Coming, and How Much Will It Cost?

Googlebooks are expected to launch in Fall 2026. For now, Google has not shared exact pricing or a specific release date. We will likely learn more on May 19, 2026, during the company’s major annual conference, Google I/O.
